"TAXANDRIA UTILIZES QUICKNESS TO TAKE CUP"

Portuguese Club (London): It was Taxandria versus Serbia in this 3rd Division Central Cup Final game.

The pace of play was very brisk between these two teams as they both appeared determined to bring the Cup home.  Serbia's patient, methodical, and disciplined style faced up against a Taxandria team that had speed and aggressiveness to spare.  Unfortunately for the team in blue, it would only be a matter of minutes before the game was put away.

With a level of team quickness rarely seen in league play, Taxandria peppered Serbia with no less than three goals in 24 minutes of play in the first half.  At 11 minutes it was Richie Delitala # 22 finding the mesh with a left footed shot taken just outside the box that found its way into the bottom right corner of the goal just beyond the Serbia keeper's fingertips.  At 16 minutes is was Darcy Vandenboer # 21 picking the bottom right corner again on a shot taken as a result of a play that came together very quickly. At 24 minutes it was O.J. Deelstra # 24 taking a quick long distance shot along the ground that eluded the keeper once again.

Serbia endeavored to replace their keeper subsequent to this marker but the three goal deficit was something the squad in blue needed more than 90 minutes to overcome. Serbia put on the pressure every way they could, using all the speed, gamesmanship and strength that they had - but this was not going to be enough.  Taxandria clogged up the middle and forced Serbia strikers to take weak shots from outside the box and then sent the ball downfield again and again on so many occasions.  Serbia would eventually begin to break through Taxandria's defensive ranks as they put up a marker at 71 minutes to make it 3-1 with 19 minutes to go (Aleksandar Brkljac #19).

Taxandria may have been beginning to tire at this point but eventually time would be on their side.  Serbia threw everything at Taxandria that they could, but the team in yellow was keeping nearly everyone back and making an outstanding defensive effort to hold Serbia back.  As the game drew to a close on this cool night, Serbia scored in the final minute making it 3-2.  Thirty seconds later however the final whistle would be blown with Taxandria having earned the Cup.  JHS
